Wound healing is the process of assisting any skin damage–such as a cut, bruise, grazed skin, puncture, or burn—to heal more completely.
In general, a wound will heal properly if given time, proper nutrition and a strong immune system. The first line of defense is often a wash with antibacterial soap and water, to remove potentially disease-causing pathogens, and to cover the wound to prevent re-contamination and further injury.
The following nutrients might be helpful in healing wounds:
Vitamin C, Vitamin E (supplement or topical cream or oil), bromelain, zinc, aloe vera (topical), althea, amaranth, American elder, arnica, blackberry, chamomile, calendula, comfrey tea (topical), dandelion, Echinacea, eucalyptus, flax, goldenseal, onion, papaya, plantain, slippery elm, and willow. Avoid foods and herbs that thin the blood.
